Drybox Rescue Station: the ultimate cellphone drying system (hands-on)

Drybox Rescue Station: the ultimate cellphone drying system (hands-on)
We all agree it's a terrible feeling when you drop a phone -- that fraction of a second when you realize, only too late, that your handset is headed toward the ground. Worse, of course, is knowing it won't be hitting concrete, but instead performing a beautiful swan dive into water. Rice in a bag or mysterious crystal desiccants are what most folks use as a go-to for water damage repair on their handsets, but the folks at DryBox have another answer. Using a box that will dry your phone in 25 minutes or so using a combination of heat, vacuum pump and light, DryBox claims up to 80 percent success for recovering your waterlogged handset.
A rep from DryBox explained to us that as long as a handset is left alone after getting wet and gets to them within 36 hours, the likelihood of recovery are very good; after that, your chances start to dwindle fast. Interestingly, iPhones have the best recovery record -- especially the iPhone 5 -- though whether that's because it's a sealed device or because so many exist is a mystery to DryBox. The patent-pending DryBox system isn't a home solution for sure; rather, Drybox envisions a profit sharing deal whereby stores set up the devices and share the revenue. Pricing is set by the dealer, but is typically somewhere between $20 and $40. A few locations are already up and running in San Antonio and Austin, Texas, so if you're in that area with a bricked phone, it might be worth checking them out.

Vizio's 2013 PC lineup features updated internals, but same flawed industrial design

Vizio 14-inch thin + light with touch
In addition to its new Windows 8 tablet PC, Vizio is announcing a refresh to its lineup laptops and all-in-one desktops for 2013 that focuses on new internals, but appears to leave the same questionable industrial design intact. As Engadget reports, the new 14- and 15-inch Thin + Light laptops offer either an Intel Core i7 processor or AMD's high-end A10 chip and feature touchscreens for full control over the clean Microsoft Signature Windows 8 installation. The larger 15-inch laptop will feature 1080p resolution, while the 14-inch will have to make do with a 1,600 x 900 display — still a great resolution for a computer of that size.
As for the desktops, the 24- and 27-inch models are now known as the All-in-One Touch, just as we saw in our recent review, but the 24-inch model will also now be available with AMD internals as well as Intel. As before, both models will include 1080p screens and Microsoft Signature Windows 8, but there aren't any other details on what's new on the hardware front yet.

Unfortunately, what we do know is that the industrial design hasn't changed from last year's models, and that could be a major issue for Vizio. Both computers came with some of the worst trackpads and keyboard we've used in our extensive testing — and while that's less of an issue for the all-in-one, where you can swap out for your peripherals for choice, it was a fatal flaw in our reviews of the 14- and 15-inch models last year. And while you can swap out the peripherals on the desktop, we found the touchscreen to be a lowlight when we reviewed the All-in-One Touch — and you're stuck with that for the life of the computer. We've reached out to Vizio for more details on its 2013 computer lineup and will update this post with any new information we receive.

The upcoming BlackBerry Z10 gets its internals revealed

RIM's upcoming BlackBerry Z10 flagship smartphone has leaked yet again. This time, though, it's not just posing for the camera, but also having its internals exposed, revealing some interesting details.
For starters, BusinessInsiders has acquired two photos of the BlackBerry Z10 being compared to the iPhone 4S. According to their source, the build quality is really solid with the back cover sporting a nice rubbery grip.
